Frequently Asked Questions

What technical requirements are needed to use Boletin.net?

For a correct functioning of these pages you will need a browser with active JavaScript and Cookies. You must also make sure that your firewall programme or your security configuration do not filter the variable HTTP_REFERER.

We usually recommend using the most recent versions of your favourite browser, as these versions always include improvements, both for navigating and for solving security problems.

How can I activate Cookies in my browser?

In most browsers, cookies are active by default. If cookies are not active in your browser, you may check the following pages:

    - For Internet Explorer click -here-.
    - For Netscape click -here-
    - For other browsers check the manufacturer's help pages.

How can I activate JavaScript in my browser?

In most browsers, JavaScript is active by default. If JavaScript is not active in your browser, you may check the following pages:

    - For Internet Explorer click -here-.
    - For Netscape, AOL and Macintosh click -here-.
    - For other browsers check the manufacturer's help pages.

What is the variable "HTTP_REFERER" and how can I check that it is not filtered?

This variable is part of the HTTP protocol, the one used for the functioning of the web. Imagine that you are navigating and that you are viewing a page, called A, in which there is a link to page B. When you click on the link, the browser asks the server for page B and among the information sent by the browser to the server is the datum HTTP_REFERER, with page A's address.

That is to say, the browser indicates the server what page is asking for the new page. When an address is directly entered in the browser or when you access a page from your Favourites, no information about the referrer is sent, that means that the server may not know which page was being seen before if you do not access the new page from a link.

Filtering this variable therefore does not imply an increase of privacy when browsing, it only avoids the server from knowing the address of the link that has been used to access one of its pages.

In most Operating Systems / Browsers / Firewall Programmes, the variable "HTTP_REFERER" is not filtered by default. If the variable is being filtered, it may be done by several ASPApplications:

    - If you use Windows XP, it is possible that the variable is being filtered by the Windows XP Internet Connection Firewall. As this service may not be configured in detail, in order to cancel the variable's filtration you will have to turn the Internet Connection Firewall completely off. Click -here- to learn how to do it.

IMPORTANT: Turning the Internet Connection Firewall off will affect your computer's security when you are connected to the Internet. If you turn this service off, we recommend using some other firewall programme (Sygate Personal Firewall, Norton Internet Security or Zone Alarm, for example) in order to protect your computer from not desired access via the Internet.

    - If you use Norton Internet Security (NIS or NPF), check the privacy configuration ("Privacy Control" - "Customize Privacy Settings") and uncheck "Enable Browser Privacy". Further information -here-

    - If you use ZoneAlarm, check "Privacy" > "Cookie Control" > "Custom" and uncheck "Remove private header information". Further information -here-.
